08-11-08: 2009 Convention Poll Now Open

The cities have been submitted and the 2009 Convention poll is now open!  You may vote in the sidebar or on the poll page.

Please keep in mind when voting that the top five US cities will be chosen to hold simultaneous events to coincide with the our Glasgow event the weekend of October 24-25, 2009Please DO NOT vote for a city if you are planning to attend the Glasgow event. We want the event planners to have a good idea of the number of attendees they should include in their planning if their city is one of the top five.

If more than 5 cities receive over 100 votes, we will consider upping the total number of cities.  PLEASE DO NOT VOTE IF YOU DON’T REASONABLY BELIEVE YOU CAN ATTEND THE EVENT IN THAT CITY.

Also, if you are planning to attend the event in Tokyo, please vote so those organizers can also use the number to assist in their planning.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered to be a part of this special event!!  Voting ends on August 21.

  1. Margaret: These are all the cities where volunteers stepped forward to plan the event in their city. We left no one out. We accepted the requests for two weeks, with reminders to submit the requests posted each week to give everyone a chance to consider volunteering. This is a year long commitment for those willing to organize the events, so the submitted cities have people who are serious about making that commitment. While we would have loved to have an option in the South, no one stepped forward in those two weeks to make the commitment for a southern location. It’s one thing for us to select a city, it’s more important to have people in those areas who can commit to planning the event. There just wasn’t anyone willing to take on that task in these areas, which we can completely understand because it’s not an easy thing to do. 🙁

I would like to ask if this is all the cities that were shown. I am asking to put one more in. I’m from the southern united states. I would like to add one for our area. Please consider Atlanta, Georgia. As it stands right now, it would be hard to get to those cities from the southern US. I would like consideration if possible.
    Thank you,

  3. Kristine: We put out a call for people willing to volunteer to help organize an event a couple weeks ago. The cities listed in the poll are the ones who answered the call. Unfortunately, no one from Dallas stepped forward. We rely on volunteers in these locations to plan the events, so it’s important for people to let us know they can help. At this point, we are going to have to limit the locations to the ones in the poll. Hopefully Texas will be represented in our next convention call for proposals. 😀

Have you ever considered having a Convention in Dallas Texas?? Dallas would be a great city to have it in.

  5. Just a note that while Australia and Canada are not on the list, if they wanted to schedule an event somewhere down the road as part of this effort, they would be welcome to do so. The poll is really to narrow down the US locations and help those committees in planning. 😀
