THUNDER RUN

Gerard Butler, Sam Worthington and Matthew McConaughey are teaming up for Thunder Run, an all-CG 3D action thriller being made by Freedom Films.  Simon West is set to direct, according to Freedom Films, while Hyde Park International is handling international sales and launching the title at AFM.

The movie is adapting the novel Thunder Run - The Armored Strike to Capture Baghdad, by Pulitzer Prize-winning correspondent David Zucchino. Robert Port, who won an Oscar in 2003 for best short documentary, and Ken Nolan, who co-wrote Black Hawk Down, penned the script.

HUNTER KILLER
Gerard us currently in negotiations to star in Antoine Fuqua’s “Hunter Killer.”

Based on the novel “Firing Point” by George Wallace and Don Keith, the story follows an untested submarine captain who must work with a Navy SEAL team to rescue Russia’s president, who’s taken prisoner during a military coup. The two sides team to stop a rogue Russian general from igniting WWIII.

Butler is in talks to play Capt. Joe Glass, the commander of the USS Toledo, while “Avatar” star Sam Worthington is being eyed for the role of Bill Beaman, the leader of a special Navy SEAL unit called the Dev Group.

This film has begun shooting in Santa Cruz, California.  New cast members include Elisabeth Shue,  Abigail Spencer (“Mad Men”) and Taylor Handley (“The O.C.”).   Shue plays Christy Moriarity, Jay’s mother.  Spencer plays Hesson’s wife, Robin “Zeuf” Janiszeufski Hesson. Leven Rambin will play Moriartiy’s wife, Kim.   Read more here and here.

Fox 2000 will co-finance and distribute Of Men and Mavericks in the US.  Curtis Hanson is scheduled to start shooting later this month in Northern California.  Elisabeth Shue and Abigail Spencer are joining the cast.  Read more…

‘Machine Gun Preacher’ has decent first round in limited release
based on the real-life story of thug-turned-preacher Sam Childers, who traveled to Sudan to help children affected by the war there — opened in four theaters and collected $44,000, according to an estimate from distributor Relativity Media. The gives the movie, which played in New York and Los Angeles this weekend, a decent per-theater average of $11,000. Read more from the Los Angeles Times…
