In Theaters Nationwide October 26, 2012, CHASING MAVERICKS (Rated PG) is the inspirational true story of real life surfing phenom Jay Moriarity (played by newcomer Jonny Weston). When 15 year old Jay discovers that the mythic Mavericks surf break, one of the biggest waves on Earth, is not only real, but exists just miles from his Santa Cruz home, he enlists the help of local legend Frosty Hesson (played by Gerard Butler) to train him to survive it. As Jay and Frosty embark on their quest to accomplish the impossible, they form a unique friendship that transforms both their lives, and their quest to tame Mavericks becomes about far more than surfing. Chasing Mavericks was made with the help of some of the biggest names in the surfing world, and features some of the most mind-blowing real wave footage ever captured on film.

The film stars Gerard Butler, Jonny Weston, Leven Rambin, Abigail Spencer, and Elisabeth Shue.

I have been waiting to see this film forever. I will be at the first showing. Anything that inspires Gerard always ends up being amazing, Machine gun Preacher for example. I am so psyched and would LOVE the poster!

It is crucial that we support causes like these and that we spread the word in order to achieve the goals set. Jay is a perfect example of what a role model should be for our children.

I hope that the movie is a success and I sure would love a bracelet as well.

    God bless,

    Sergio

I have quite a story for you. I moved to 36th Avenue in Pleasure Point in Oct. 1984. I met a guy while walking my dog, Jackson Rahn. We started talking, as if I lived here my whole life. During our chat I mentioned I owned a 16′ rigid hull zodiac. Jackson said, “Hey would you be interested in being a support boat for paddle across Monetrey Bay, from the Crows Nest beach in Santa Cruz to Del Monte Beach in Monterey” on National Clean Water Act Day in 1995. It didn’t take me long as I said yes. Next thing I knew I was going to coordination/planning meetings weekly regarding this paddle on paddleboards in the prone position. I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to meet local surfers and enable me to fit in. Needless to say I met wonderful people. The list of paddlers was as follows; Jay Moriarity, Frosty Hesson, Robi “Zuef” Janiszuefski, Chris Attencio, Phil Curtiss, EJ Johnson, Jeff Plucy, Jane KcKenzie, Nicole Kennedy, Beth Pitts, Jackson Rahn, Jason Smith, Jennifer Jones, Tom Millman, Marty Weeland, Tim Powers, Max Werner, Jim Clark & Kim. We left the beach at the Crow’s Nest in Santa Cruz at about 5:30am. The 1st paddler got out at Del monte Beach at around 1:30pm and the last paddler about 3:30pm. I think the paddle was 23 miles as the crow flies but ended up being more like 25 miles. I didn’t know at the time but I had just became aquantences with true watermen and waterwomen. I knew Jay and others from this paddle and am friends with many of them. I love living here and talk to Frosty and Zuef regularly. They are great people who I admire. I especially admire Zuef for her strength and battle with cancer. Talk about a positive person!!!! If I have a bad day I think of what Zuef has endured and my day seems trivial. I love the energy of both Frosty and Zuef and look forward to seeing them every day.

I am SUPER excited to see this movie!! It’s driving me crazy that I have to wait until it comes out on DVD as I won’t have any access to a theater while it’s playing! :( It’s such an awesome story, and the fact that it’s true makes it even more appealing. Love the focus on the teacher/student relationship between Frosty and Jay…it’ll be really great to see Gerry’s portrayal as that father-figure!

I cant wait. He really goes all out for his movies. Of course I thought we lost him during the filming of this one, almost cried. I like when a story is based on a real person. Love ya Gerry.
