The winners for each film will receive an AUTOGRAPHED item from Gerard and their posters will be featured on our front page until the opening of the films!!

2009 CONVENTION POLL

In recognition of the fact that times are tight and traveling has become more expensive, we want to get some feedback on plans for next years convention.

Traditionally, we would be going back to Glasgow. We still want to do that, but know that many will not be able to make the trip because of the costs, so the below survey is meant to figure out how many people definitely can afford to attend, how many would be interested in attending regional or local events (abroad AND the US) on the same date in a type of “worldwide” event held simultaneously. Cast your vote here!

I live in Honolulu and I just got back from Glasgow and it rained most of the time and was a little on the chilly side (high 60’s in the day), but it was still GORGEOUS! I stayed at a lovely b&b in the Kelvingrove area and I walked almost everywhere I went. I wouldn’t care where the convention is as long as i can walk it. It’s awesome that Gerry has so many people that adore him around the world! I’ve never known a celebrity who has this much charisma and charm to warrant a global gathering. This is truly awesome. I wonder if Gerry has ever really thought about the magnitude of his fan-base. He’d be awestruck for sure, yet he’s so down-to-earth and humble about it all. That’s one of the main reasons we love him, right? I, too, like the idea of having it BIG TIME when he turns 40 (next year). Of course, his MOM, his sister and brother have to be part of it, too, right?

I’m eagerly awaiting further news and updates. Count me in to help organize!

I vote for an October gathering in Glasgow. I agree that the cost last summer was pretty steep, but well worth it. But it would be nice to save some money so I can stay longer or do more tours. I also liked the January trip because it was A LOT less crowded. I felt like I got to do more because there were less people. I also felt like I got to experience the true Scotland because we met more locals. I did like the Mariott as a venue, but I think that’s because it was more Americanized for me with larger rooms. But wherever venue is chosen my number 1 request is that it have easy access to transportation and points of interest.

Can’t wait to hear what you guys have in store for us.

I live in Riverside, California which is an hour from LA, Hollywood, Orange County, and would love a get together right here. For those who live elsewhere, this area has a ton of exciting things to do such as Disneyland, Universial Studios, TV broadcasts, Aquariums, museums, surfing, Laguna Beach Art colony, beautiful Lake Arrowhead, Palm Sorings, and more. Plus to the South of us is San Diego, with a second ton of things to do, including a visit to Baja California where shopping is a bargain.

  4. Susan~Sporran Says:

I would love to return to Scotland and September-October (or even into November) would be ideal. Off-season is less costly and not nearly so crowded either. I don’t think I’d go in the summer again.

  5. Judy Ranieri Says:

I favor three places………Gerard Butler has a definite connection to all three:

Glasgow………In mid-late June……..a beautiful time in the UK.

New York City………In late September, early October……….an exciting time in NYC……..you would
never run out of things to do and see.

Los Angeles………..In January, February or March………enjoy a winter break in warm weather, and
    see the sights.

  6. Mirax Says:

For my first convention I’d like to go to Scotland. I think Autumn would be nice.

  7. memdebbie Says:

I love the idea of simultaneous multiple parties as part of global convention! Brilliant idea. So many more people could participate. And if they could be linked by video, that would be outstanding!

  8. DaisyMay Says:

Glasgow in the Autumn would be lovely. Late summer, early fall would be ideal.

  9. LESVAN Says:

Late-September would be a great time in Scotland - I’ve been in Scotland at this time past two years and weather was wonderful, and the fall scenery is gorgeous. Also, “high season” travel period generally ends September 15th, meaning lower airfares, etc.
Also, one way to really reduce costs is to not have the convention at one of the big downtown Glasgow hotels. The Kelvingrove area (around the University) has lots of great smaller Scottish hotels and B&Bs, and I’m sure it would be fairly easy to locate a venue in the neighbourhood to hold a “convention”.

  10. jonijololly Says:

I like the idea of fall in Scotland, September-October. The high season crowds and the increased costs associated with the summer really made a huge difference in 2007. I still had a great time though and wouldn’t have missed it for anything!

  11. SmartyTarty Says:

I think the idea of having mulitiple gatherings simultaneously is a brilliant plan!
Celebrating it in November as close as possible to Gerry’s birthday would be wonderful.
We definitely need to party “with him” for the BIG 40!

  12. Tracy Says:

The idea of a worldwide convention might work for some, but I will be in Scotland for it , I live in the states but think it is worth it to travel there, also his birthday is a nice thought but, most people with children won’t be able to do it during that time of the year, because of school, etc.

  13. Suzanne Hoffman Says:

I like the idea of simultaneous conventions in Glasgow and other cities throughout the world. The fanbase is big enough to support that now. Maybe we can link up via webcams and have it online too so everyone can participate. We can call it the Gerard Butler Worldwide Convention.

And why not on or around Gerry’s birthday? That’s off-season most places and it’s certainly fitting to honor and celebrate that day in a big way everywhere, like the NYC fans already do. (He’ll turn 40 in 2009 as well. Might take a bit of the sting out of it for him. : ) )

  14. patsyb Says:

Glasgow, Scotland in September would be nice. A different season than when conventions were previously held in Glasgow possibly enabling members/visitors to enjoy the scenic delights during the early Autumn.

  15. Ann Luongo Says:

New York might be nice for a convention. Maybe in the springtime, around the same time the DC convention was held. Just a thought.

    Ann
