A casting call for characters in Warner Bros. Pictures' 300 has gone out. The war epic, to be directed by Zach Snyder, is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel of the same name. Gerard Butler stars in the movie, which starts filming on October 17 in Montreal.

The film tells the true story of 300 elite Spartan fighters who, led by King Leonidas (Butler), fought to the death against King Xerxes' massive Persian army during the battle of Thermopylae in 481-480 B.C. According to lore, their valor inspired all of Greece to rise up against the invading Persians, planting the seeds of democracy.

SHOULD BE ABLE TO PERFORM PROPER ENGLISH/BRITISH ACCENT. ALL MALE PERFORMERS PLAYING SPARTAN CHILDREN WILL BE REQUIRED TO SHAVE THEIR HEADS BALD (OR A BUZZ CUT WITH NO GUARD ON THE RAZOR). Leonidas's son, he is a young warrior in training. He is one year from starting the Agoge - the Spartan system of physical, social, intellectual and moral education that every boy must go through in order to become a man. For now, he enjoys learning his lessons from the best teacher in Sparta, his own father. And he is a fast learner. He is too young to fully comprehend what being a Spartan means, but already he has mastered the importance of two words: respect and honor. [LEONIDAS @ 11 - 12] (Non Speaking) MALE. Age: 11 - 12. TO PORTRAY LEONIDAS (played as an adult by GERARD BUTLER) AS A YOUNG WARRIOR. EXTREMELY PHYSICAL ROLE; GYMNASTICS/ACROBATICS/MARTIAL ARTS AN ASSET. REQUIRES EXCELLENT CHILD ACTOR - LOTS OF SILENT PERFORMANCE. ALL MALE PERFORMERS PLAYING SPARTAN BOY CHILDREN WILL BE REQUIRED TO SHAVE THEIR HEADS BALD (OR GET A BUZZ CUT WITH NO GUARD ON THE RAZOR). A young Leonidas is whipped that he may learn to show no pain, to show no mercy. He is sent out into the blistering cold and forced to kill the wolf - the first of many legends that would be told of this King. This is truly the boy that would become the man, the man who would become a King...APPROXIMATELY 2 SHOOTING DAYS.

[PERSIAN MESSENGER] MALE. Age: 30's - 40's. ETHNICITY REQUIRED; PERSIANS are scripted as being: Assyrians, Arabians, Bactrians, Cappadocians, Medes, Karians, Babylonians, Armenians, and other Asiatic tribes...'a hundred nations'. MUST BE SCARY, TOUGH & POWERFUL LOOKING; A scarred face and sharpened teeth (all prosthetics) through which he delivers his message to Leonidas: kneel in servitude to the God King Xerxes or perish. It is the same message he has delivered to many other Kings and he carries pieces of their skulls as a grim warning to those who would oppose Xerxes's rule. He has no fear. He serves Xerxes - the most powerful man in the world - and what's more, he is a messenger and so believes that he is untouchable. But his arrogance is his undoing. Leonidas holds everyone accountable for their words. Even messengers. And his insults directed at Sparta and her Queen earn this messenger a one-way trip down a very deep well...HORSE-BACK RIDING EXPERIENCE A PLUS. APPROXIMATELY 4 SHOOTING DAYS.
