Over two hundred Gerard Butler fans from America & Europe descended on Glasgow, Scotland for the Gerard Butler Convention.
Gerard is a Paisley-born film star, having appeared in Tomb Raider, Mrs Brown and Dracula 2001. The afternoon was spent watching the film 'Phantom of the Opera' in which Gerard played the lead role. The highlight of the evening was a video message and telephone call from Gerard himself, who was filming in Canada. One big surprise was his mother, step-father and aunt arriving to join in the celebrations.
The convention had a philanthropic bent: a raffle of signed props from Butler's films - including a leather loincloth - saw the raffle raise £5,500 on the night to benefit CLIC Sargent. Previous to the evening, t-shirts with the convention's logo and CLIC Sargent friendship bracelets were sold via the website raising $7,500.
Gerard Butler has made a magnificent gesture of matching the monies raised!
CLIC Sargent would like to say a big thank you to all concerned who raised this fantastic sum which will help children and young people with cancer and their families.
This Autumn the fans will reconvene for another convention in Colorado, USA, which his mother has vowed to attend.
