Scottish heartthrob Gerard Butler is reportedly topping the list of actors to replace Pierce Brosnan as the next James Bond. According to Scotland's Daily Record, the 6-foot-2 Scot is scheduled to meet with Bond producers to discuss his becoming the latest in a long line of 007 portrayers.
Butler was most recently seen in the title role of the USA cable miniseries Attila. Prior to that, the 31-year-old actor starred on the big screen in Wes Craven's Dracula 2000. The producers of the Bond franchise are reportedly anxious to find a new actor to play the secret agent, since Brosnan, the current Bond, is set to begin filming his fourth and final 007 flick in January.
Sean Connery, another Scot, was the first to play Bond on the big screen. Through the years he has been succeeded by George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Brosnan.
