WITHOUT any acting training, Scott Moutter went along to an open audition for a BBC drama 'just for fun', simply because it was in his home town.

He was astonished when he landed a small role in the ten-part series In A Land Of Plenty, which began screening last month.

But the 16-year-old was left positively open-mouthed at what happened when a casting director noticed his performance while channel-surfing during a visit to Britain.

Scott was immediately called to a screen test and offered a major role in Disney's forthcoming GBP 50million action fantasy Reign of Fire.

With hardly time to draw breath, Scott was excused school, where he is studying for his GCSEs, and sent to begin filming in Ireland with co-stars Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey.

Scott's mother Karen, 42, said: 'It is all just like a fairytale. Everyone has been caught up in a whirlwind.

'He filmed In A Land of Plenty in the autumn of 1999 near our home in Stafford.

It was fun watching him on television last month but we thought that was the end of it.
