He was a joint winner with Cressida Trew of the Judges' Award for Acting at the National Student Drama Festival in 2003, for his performance in Bedbound by Enda Walsh. Abdalla's first screen role was in an episode of Spooks.

But the turning point is when the main character Amir, played by Khalid, does nothing to stop the rape of his friend Hassan.
