HOLLYWOOD superstar Jodie Foster will return to the Gold Coast for the Australian premiere of Nim's Island on March 20.

The 45-year-old double Oscar award-winning actress was on the Coast last year after signing with Fox Walden Films to play a lead role in the family adventure film alongside child-star Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine).

The film was made inside the Warner Roadshow Studios at Oxenford and on locations around the Coast, including Wet 'n' Wild.

While filming Nim's Island at the Gold Coast studios last September, Foster professed her admiration for Australia.

"I love Australia. There are so many things to love about this country," she said.

Sea World has been chosen for the gala premiere as its sea lions starred in the film.

Two of Sea World's Australian sea lions, Spud and Friday, were cast to share the role of 'Selkie'.

Sea World publicity executive Wendy Morgan said the national premiere was a first for the park and encouraging for the Gold Coast's growing film industry.

Ms Morgan said while Foster was their VIP, they had another guest on the list who starred in the film.

"At least one of the sea lions will be appearing for the event. It's very exciting for us because it gives Sea World an opportunity to celebrate the animals starring in the film and showcase our park through the international media," she said.

Ms Morgan said it was fitting to have the premiere at Sea World.

"Nim's Island was written by an Australian author, the film was shot on Australian soil and it stars our sea lions," she said.

Nim's Island is based on the children's book by Wendy Orr.

Breslin plays Nim, a young girl trying to find her scientist father who has disappeared and Foster plays Alex, a reclusive adventure writer enlisted to help find him.

"Although it is a private screening, the park will still be open to the public, so anyone who comes has a chance to see Jodie Foster on the red carpet," said Ms Morgan.

Nim's Island is set to be released on April 3 in Queensland and Victoria and April 10 nationally.

The national premiere is the second for the Gold Coast this year, following the success of the Warner Bros Movie World Australian launch of Fool's Gold, starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, which was also filmed at the studios.

Meanwhile, the production slate for 2008 on the Gold Coast is beginning to heat up with filming of the psychological thriller Triangle set to start next month.

Gold Coast producer from Pictures in Paradise, Chris Brown, said they were in final negotiations to secure Australian actress Melissa George for a lead role in the film.
