HOLLYWOOD beauty Angelina Jolie wanted to make her Tomb Raider co-star Gerard Butler history - because he kept singing on the set of last year's action sequel.
The Paisley-born actor got on the wrong side of the 29-year-old actress while they were filming Tomb Raider 2: The Cradle of Life.
Butler, 35, was honing his vocals his skills before an audition for the new movie adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera, due to be released in December.
He said: "I got stuck into voice training, driving her mad on the set with vocal exercises between every take. Compulsiveness is what has fuelled a lot of my success. If I want something, I work like a demon to get it."
Butler's practice paid off as he landed the lead role in the musical, which also stars Minnie Driver and Miranda Richardson, ahead of Antonio Banderas.
"It's incredibly powerful, " he said of the film.
The actor's next project is Beowulf, due to begin filming in Iceland this August.
The movie, adapted from the epic Anglo-Saxon poem which inspired JRR Tolkein's Lord Of The Rings, tells of a Norse warrior's battle against the murderous troll Grendel.
