The trailer for Joel Schumacher's take on Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera is now online. You can get it below. The well-paced trailer is set to a rousing orchestral version of the theme and it shows a rich, sweeping production that seems likely to please Phantom devotees. Schumacher directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Andrew Lloyd Webber. The story, in case you aren't hip to that scene, centers around a disfigured musical genius (played by Gerard Butler) who haunts the catacombs beneath the Paris Opera, waging a reign of terror over its occupants. When he falls fatally in love with the lovely Christine (played by the lovely Emmy Rossum), the Phantom devotes himself to creating a new star for the Opera, exerting a strange sense of control over the young soprano as he nurtures her extraordinary talents.
Butler and Rossum star long with Patrick Wilson, Miranda Richardson, Simon Callow, Ciaran Hind and Minnie Driver.
The Phantom of the Opera has been rated PG-13 by the MPAA for brief violent images. It's set to hit the big-screen on Christmas.
