Feature Film on 1950’s American Soccer Team Cinderella Defeat of English Rivals

Crusader Entertainment President and CEO, Howard Baldwin, announced today that Crusader has reunited director David Anspaugh and Writer Angelo Pizzo, the creative team behind HOOSIERS and RUDY, for "The Game of Their Lives", the true story of the American soccer team who pulled off one of the sporting world’s most stunning upsets, defeating the powerhouse English in the 1950’s World Cup, based on the book by Geoffrey Douglas.

In the 1950’s, the World Cup tournament barely registered a blip on American’s sports radar, so the U.S. sent—absent of fanfare or press coverage—a hastily assembled band of amateur and semipro players, composed chiefly of working-class immigrants. Listed as a 500-to-1 shot by one London bookmaker, The Americans were underdogs to a seemingly unbeatable English squad….until the opening kickoff.

Says Crusader’s Baldwin, “David and Angelo have made two enduringly-popular American sports sagas in HOOSIERS and RUDY. We are so excited to bring them on to this project which is such a perfect vehicle for their considerable talents. Given the recent stellar performance of the American Soccer team, and America’s new-found enthusiasm for a game that has always captured the rest of the world’s imagination, we are enormously excited about this edge-of-your-seat, real-life sports drama.” "The Game of Their Lives" currently in pre-production and will start principal photography in the first quarter of 2003.
