3D actioner tells story of capture of Baghdad
Freedom Films is advancing toward production of "Thunder Run," the story of the capture of Baghdad in 2003, with the closing of a domestic P&A financing arrangement.
The CG 3-D action thriller, set to go into production this summer, was first announced in October with Gerard Butler, Sam Worthington and Matthew McConaughey starring and Simon West directing. "Thunder Run" is co-financed by Brian Presley's Freedom Films and Fred Malmburg's Paradox Entertainment.
Ashok Amritraj's Hyde Park International is handling sales at Cannes.
VFX production has begun on the film. Presley is producing alongside Jib Polhemus of The Graphic Film Company. Script is adapted by Robert Port and Ken Nolan ("Black Hawk Down") from "Thunder Run - The Armored Strike to Capture Baghdad" by David Zucchino.
"Thunder Run" will focus on three battalions and the fewer than 1,000 men launching a thrust of tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles into Baghdad in April 2003. That assault was the opening of a three-day blitzkrieg, which military professionals often refer to as a lightning strike, or "thunder run."
Freedom Films is represented by the Gersh Agency.
