SCOTS heart-throb Gerard Butler has got involved in an amazing tug-of-war with rival filmmakers.
Movie bosses want him to star in big screen versions of the Phantom of the Opera and the life of Robert Burns. The 33-year-old Paisleyborn actor can't believe his luck at being first choice for the Phantom role against top opposition such as Antonio Banderas, Johnny Depp and Ewan McGregor.
Butler, however, has indicated he wants to star as the Scottish bard in a separate Robert Burns film.
All eyes are on the actor who is red hot after winning the role of Angelina Jolie's love interest Terry Sheridan in the blockbuster sequel Tomb Raider 2: The Cradle of Life, which will hit British cinema screens in August.
The Phantom role would give Butler a bumper paycheck - but his heart is said to be with the Burns project, variously titled Red Rose and Clarinda.
There is a chance that Butler could do both films, capping an incredible year.
