Scots tycoon Tom Hunter is thought to be the fan who lodged the massive offer at a charity auction for a Burns Supper hosted by actor Ewan McGregor in London.
It is understood Hunter placed a telephone bid to secure to group's appearance at the annual Scottish Entrepreneurial Exchange Ball later this year.
Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri co-hosted the charity event last night.
The auction raised a total of £342,000 which will be split between Rachel House and the Sargent Cancer Care charity.
A spokesman for the organisers said: ''The £342,000 was great. I cannot confirm any details about who bid for what.
''But I can say there was one secret bid of £250,000 for Texas to perform at a private party for them.''
One guest revealed that heart-throb Scots actor Gerry Butler, 32, bid £5000 for a weekend in the plush Cashmere Suite at Stobo Castle, in the Borders.
The night proved a roaring success for Star Wars actor Ewan, who was out to squeeze his celebrity pals for as much cash as possible. But it was all in a good cause Rachel House children's hospice in Kinross.
Kilted Ewan arrived with his French wife Eve at the star-studded evening at the exclusive St Martin's Lane Hotel.
Co-host Sharleen arrived dressed in elegant black and said: ''I am proud to be Scottish. It is my night.
''I hope everyone enjoys themselves and lots of money is raised for charity.''
The third host for the evening was Lady Helen Taylor, daughter of the Duchess of Kent.
Ewan and Sharleen are big supporters of the Children's Hospice Association Scotland.
Last year, the pair cut the first turf on the charity's new project a second hospice, Robin House on the banks of Loch Lomond.
One Foot In The Grave star Richard Wilson also added a touch of colour to the event.
