WHISKY, haggis and women were in plentiful supply at the most glamorous Burns Night held in the capital.

Ewan McGregror was the star turn at the party at the St Martin's Lane Hotel, which raised funds for CLIC Sargent and The Children's Hospice Association Scotland. Resplendent in his kilt, McGregor cut a haggis and read some of Burns's poems - in tribute to Scotland's best-loved poet, whose birthday is marked on Burns Night.

However, the Trainspotting star won't be playing the poet on screen in a forthcoming Hollywood biopic. Fellow Scotsman Gerry Butler, who starred in Phantom of the Opera, is taking the lead role.

Other guests at the jolly party included Stella McCartney, Jade Jagger, ex-Gucci boss Tom Ford, super-snapper Mario Testino, Lady Helen Taylor, model Liberty Ross, singer Sharleen Spiteri and U2's Adam Clayton.
