HOLLYWOOD: Vancouver producer Bill Vince will hang out with Capote crowd tonight

Vince himself has worked in movies for 18 years. He produced the well-regarded high-school satire Saved! in 2004, and met the people who would later introduce him to Miller, Futterman and Hoffman.

"I give them a platform to work under, and with these guys it's returned to me tenfold. They are able to perform and based on that they're able to get Oscar nominations. That helps me."

Vince attended a luncheon in L.A. for Oscar nominees last month, and ended up sitting next to Steven Spielberg for a group shot of the 171 nominees.

"The first thing I said when I was at the Oscar lunch was: 'How the hell am I going to get back into this room?' I'm a very competitive person. I'm excited about doing new projects, getting good material like Capote that can get you there."

He reads five scripts a week and has about 20 in development at any given time, most of which won't get made.

When he catches that 7 a.m. flight back to Vancouver tomorrow, he'll be flying with actors Pierce Brosnan, Gerard Butler and Maria Bello, who will join Vince in Vancouver to begin work this month on the thriller Butterfly on a Wheel.

"It's a lot of work right now, but it's very exciting to have Capote, to follow Phil, Bennett and those guys as they've become big celebrities, and then jumping on a plane and saying: 'That was great.'"
