Gooder, who has been serving as CEO of Icon's Australian distribution company, will continue in that gig as well.
Expanded role means Gooder will relocate from Australia to California, although he'll end up splitting his time between Santa Monica and Sydney.
"This is a unique opportunity to integrate the skills and market knowledge I have accumulated over the past 15 years and work with the London and Los Angeles offices to source strong, commercial material for Icon in the international marketplace," Gooder said.
He will be responsible for international film buys and development.
Icon Film Distribution Australia has witnessed strong results over the past five years, acquiring and unspooling a number of successful box office releases, including "Crash," "Match Point," "The Passion of the Christ," "Gosford Park" and "We Were Soldiers."
Gooder will report directly to Davey, prexy of Icon, who said Gooder's promotion would help further the growth of Icon Prods. worldwide.
Icon's production slate includes "Apocalypto," which marks Gibson's first directing effort since box office blockbuster "The Passion of the Christ."
Other projects in the works include helmer Richard Donner's "Sam and George," "Fahrenheit 451" and "Butterfly on a Wheel," starring Pierce Brosnan, Gerard Butler and Claudette Mink.
Icon also is producing "Under and Alone" for Warner Bros., with Australia-born Gregor Jordan set to direct.
