Benjamin Bratt reportedly has joined Javier Bardem and Giovanna Mezzogiorno in the cast of Newell's "Love in the Time of Cholera," adapted from the novel by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. New Line is taking domestic rights, with Summit repping foreign sales for the project's producer, Stone Village Pictures.
Summit also has taken worldwide rights to "P2," a cat-and-mouse thriller from the team behind Alex Aja's horror pic "The Hills Have Eyes."
"P2," about a woman stranded in a parking garage on Christmas Eve, is co-written by Aja, Gregory Levasseur and Frank Khalfoun. Pic will mark the directorial debut of Khalfoun, who edited "The Hills Have Eyes."
Summit acquired worldwide rights in a preemptive deal, with production slated to begin in July. Summit's president Patrick Wachsberger and production prexy Erik Feig are producing "P2," alongside Aja and Levasseur.
LaGravenese is directing chick-lit adaptation "P.S., I Love You," based on Cecilia Aherne's novel about a young widow who discovers her recently deceased husband has left her 10 messages to help her start a new life. Financed by Alcon, pic is produced by Wendy Finerman, with Warner taking domestic and Summit selling foreign territories.
Jackman will star in "The Tourist," a thriller about identity theft, blackmail and sex, to be directed by commercials helmer Marcel Langenegger.
Finally, Paris Hilton will play one of the two eponymous heroines in "The Hottie and the Nottie." It's a romantic comedy, directed by Tom Putnam, about an attractive woman (Hilton) who refuses to marry her longtime suitor until he has set up her ugly best friend with a partner. Script is by Heidi Ferrer.
It's a typically diverse roster of new product from Summit, which also has Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu's "Babel" in the Cannes competition, although the pic reportedly will screen in unfinished form.
Summit will be screening "Step Up" (previously titled "Music High") for the first time in the market. But it's understood that the company will be holding back footage on the other movies it currently has in production, including "Michael Clayton," "Perfume," "Miss Potter" and "Bridge to Terabithia."
