PS, I LOVE dogs Hilary Swank was delighted to meet the newest cast member of the movie based on Cecelia Ahern's novel, as filming continued in New York yesterday.

Swank, who has shot scenes in Ireland over the last two weeks, broke into an earsplitting grin when she clapped eyes on the little dog in Soho.

And then she proudly took her fourlegged friend for a stroll around the Big Apple as the cameras rolled.

The two-time Oscar winner was filming the latest scenes for PS, I Love You, a Hollywood adaptation of Cecelia's first book. It began production in Wicklow a fortnight ago, when the Taoiseach and his daughter visited the set and met the cast.

While Hilary was in Ireland, she donned a pair of red wellies to help ward off the cold and damp. Yesterday the actress was able to sport a more stylish pair of leather boots, teamed with a chic black and white coat but she needed a red umbrella later as the skies turned grey.

Miss Swank, 32, is playing the lead role in the film, starring as a young widow struggling to come to terms with her husband's death.

After his passing, she discovers a box of letters with instructions to open one letter a month for the next ten months.

Each letter contains a task that helps her slowly to come to terms with her husband's death and move on with her life.

Scottish actor Gerard Butler takes the role of her late husband.

Butler previously starred in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and played Count Dracula in Dracula 2000, while Swank has won Oscars for her roles in Boys Don't Cry and Million-Dollar Baby.

The film also features Kathy Bates, who won an Academy Award for her role in Misery.

Cecelia Ahern has said she loves the screenplay version of her bestseller, and has given her enthusiastic support to the five-star cast.

Meanwhile, she has just published her fourth book, Mrs Whippy, is working on a television comedy for the U.S. and is waiting for Disney to turn her third book, If You Could See Me Now, into a musical.
