Hot off the success of "The Fast and the Furious," Paul Walker will receive $3 million to star in Paramount Pictures' "Timeline," based on the novel by Michael Crichton that Richard Donner will direct.

The project begins shooting in March, with Walker fitting in another feature before "Timeline" -- likely to be Intermedia's "Wannabe," which is aiming for a fall start (HR 7/18).

Walker marks the second star from "Furious" to receive a pay hike because of the success of the film, which has grossed $132.5 domestically to date. Co-star Vin Diesel has signed to star in Revolution Studios' "XXX" for $10 million (HR 7/31).

In "Timeline," Walker will join Gerard Butler ("Dracula 2000") in a time-travel story about a group of young grad school scientists who go back to the 14th century to rescue their mentor, Professor Johnston, via a time machine. Butler was the first actor to come aboard the project (HR 5/16) and will play the lead role of Andre Marek, a site manager on an archaeological dig in France who is recruited to save the professor. Walker will play Chris Hughes, an archaeology student who also is the professor's stepson.

Donner is producing with his wife, Lauren Shuler Donner. Paramount picked up feature film rights to the book 18 months ago, with Donner attached to direct (HR 10/25/99). George Nolfi wrote the latest draft of the script.

Walker, repped by Endeavor and Creative Management Corp., has starred in stuck films as "Skulls," "She's All That" and "Pleasantville."
