Writer-director Guy Ritchie returns to the mean streets of London and shows he’s back on form.

Back on Lock, Stock and Snatch territory, his tale about likeable, wisecracking crim One Two (Gerard Butler) follows a twisting plot about a botched property deal, a sexy accountant, a prized painting owned by the Russian mafioso and a crack-addicted rocker called Johnny Quid.

There’s plenty of pace and an even peppering of gritty action alongside that trademark flippant humour, which has sadly been missing in Ritchie’s offerings since his mind-blowing debut.

RocknRolla is Ritchie back doing what he does best. The comedy works well and the story grabs your attention.

The audience is forced to follow several characters at different times and the substance of the film – while not Shakespeare – delivers a tough gangland underworld without being overly hard-faced.
