The plot? Forget about it.
It has to do with a shifty real estate deal, a missing painting and a presumed dead rock and roll star, but is mostly an excuse for Ritchie to wipe clean the sour aftertaste of 2002's "Swept Away" and return to the broguish gangster territory he knows best.
The great Tom Wilkinson ("Michael Clayton") is a hoot as a hard-as-nails crime lord ("There's no school like the old school, and I'm the (bleeping) headmaster!" he barks), and
Gerard Butler ("300") is right at home amongst the junkies, thugs and crooks who populate Ritchie's world.
Butler's sex scene with Thandie Newton -- pared down to a quick montage of moans -- is an absolute cut-up.
Flashy but assured, the film is a controlled exercise in style that toes the line but never feels over-the-top. In a word, "RocknRolla" rocks.
