ACTOR Gerard Butler is facing a prison stretch - but only for a movie role.

Law graduate Butler, 39, ends up behind bars in the blockbuster Law Abiding Citizen.

The crew are taking over a real prison, now shut down, in Delaware to shoot the movie, which is also 300 star Butler's first venture as a producer.

A pal of the Paisley raised star said: "Gerry joked he never dreamt being an actor would end up putting him behind bars.

"But he is really looking forward to it because the prison scenes are so important to the film."

In the film Butler's character is gunning for revenge after his wife and daughter's killers go free after a plea bargain.

Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx plays an assistant district attorney who is targeted.

Butler, who studied law at Glasgow University, quit the profession after being fired a week before he qualified to practise.

The movie is the first to be made by his production company Evil Twins.

The friend said: "Because Gerry is producing, he wanted the prison scenes to be as authentic as possible and everyone thought this place was perfect."
