The movie sees Gerard Butler (300), play Kable, a death row inmate who is forced to participate in a brutal game in order to earn his freedom, and save his wife and daughter from the other side (?). The weird and interesting part is the “Game” is infact an actual sophisticated computer programmed game -Think Counter-Strike 1.6 crossed with Second Life – controlled by a player on the other side. This is the concept of the movie that really intrigues you and gets you thinking. The subject (Gerard Butler), is injected in the brain by a nanotech virus non as Nanex. The Nanex virus then takes over cells and replicates itself, then once fully “installed”, Nanex gives each person a unique IP address which in turn is used to control the person in the game. The technology allows the controller to see through a person’s eyes and see and feel everything they experience.

Kable’s controller is played by Michael C. Hall who’s framed Kable and actually has no plans to free him, onces he’s finished the agreed 30 levels, and to add the mix, there’s a rebel group, led by non other than Ludacris himself, trying to bring down this pay-per-view spectacular, and free Kable and help him retrieve his wife and kid in the process. Make any sense? Put simple the entire movie is a mix between Death race, Running man, Counter-Strike 1.6 and Second Life, and yet original and entertaining. If you haven’t yet seen it, go for it, it beats most of action genres that have come out so far this summer.

Verdict: 9/10
