The movie adaptation of Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s acclaimed stage musical will be a treat for fans as the movie was produced by Lloyd Webber himself and directed by award-winning director Joel Schumacher.
Expect lavish and colourful setting and superb singing from the actors who had taken voice-training lessons for three years to ensure a pitch-perfect performance for the movie.
The charity preview of the movie is organised by Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd, with Nescafe Gold as the title presenter, in support of the National Child Friendly Healthcare Association of Malaysia (NCFHAM).
The association’s patron, Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood, will grace the event.
Nestle hopes to raise RM40,000 from the sale of tickets, which will be available for a minimum contribution of RM50 each.
“This event is a win-win for Malaysians. It is a wonderful opportunity to view a world-class movie production while contributing towards a worthy cause,” said Nestle communication channels and events manager Khoo Kar Khoon.
“We continuously seek opportunities to contribute more to society, and by organising this high-profile charity premiere of The Phantom of the Opera, we will be able to contribute to the children within our community.”
The collaboration with the association is not its first, as Nestle had helped establish a Toy Library at the Occupational Therapy Unit of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital Paediatrics Institute through a RM10,000 contribution for the purchase of toys and games for child patients of the unit.
NCFHAM president Datuk Dr Mahmud Mohd Nor hoped Malaysians would donate generously to enable the association to carry out plans to change the way children were treated in hospitals.
“Many children associate hospital visits with pain and fear because of the unfriendly environment in hospitals,” said Dr Mahmud.
“The association has developed standards that hospitals should strive for and our objective is to make the stay as enjoyable and pleasant as possible for the children.”
The Toy Library, Dr Mahmud said, was a first step towards such an environment in which children could be happy.
Nestle group corporate affairs manager Tengku Marina Badlishah said Nestle would work through the association to contact other hospitals to set up more Toy Libraries in the future.
Ticket bookings can be made by calling Nestle at 03-7965 6333, from 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays. Payment can be made by cash or crossed cheque payable to Nestle Products Sdn Bhd.
